Katy homes run a lot of power.

Katy grew fast, and its houses grew with it. Most of what we see out here is newer two-story construction in Cinco Ranch, Grand Lakes and the neighborhoods along the Grand Parkway, plus older homes around Old Katy that predate the boom.

The newer homes tend to be big, with two AC systems, a pool and a three-car garage. That combination fills a panel fast. When a Katy homeowner adds an EV charger or a garage fridge, the first question is usually whether the panel can take it, and that is where we start.

Katy is a straight run west on I-10 or the Westpark Tollway from West Houston.

Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes were built from the late 1980s onward. The houses are large, and the panels are often full or close to it. Older homes near Old Katy and along the Union Pacific line are smaller and older, and that is where we find tired panels and outlets that need replacing.
